Life/Performance Coaching

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) are techniques that help resolve negative emotions or beliefs about a behaviour or thought. EFT is one of the new Power Therapies known as "Energy Psychology". It is based on the premise that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system.

How does it work?

The EFT Discovery statement is: ‘The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body's energy system'.

This means that negative emotions are not caused by a memory of a past traumatic experience but by a disruption in the body's energy system when you recall that memory, so by rebalancing the energy system when tuned into that memory, the negative emotion is resolved.

The body's energy system is rebalanced by tapping on the meridian end points on the body (the same used in acupuncture only without the needles!) whilst "tuning" into the issue, the technique balances energy and that usually resolves the emotion, improves performance and changes the belief. Typically the result is lasting and is also accompanied by positive thinking changes. The technique is easy to learn and ideal for self-help.

The History of EFT

Modern meridian therapies are based on ancient Chinese Meridian Energy system dating back to at least 1000BC. In the mid 1960's chiropractor, Dr George Goodheart developed Applied Kinesiology based on muscle testing after studying the link between apparent muscle strength and the body's meridian and organs. In the mid 1970's psychiatrist, John Diamond developed Behavioural Kinesiology through his study of Applied Kinesiology and his psychotherapy work.

In 1980's psychologist, Dr Roger Callahan developed Thought Field Therapy (TFT) from studying with Diamond, investigating Eastern health practices that included meridian point work and a remarkable result from working with a patient called Mary who had a severe water phobia.

She had gone from therapist to therapist for years with no real improvement in her phobia and the frequent headaches and terrifiying nightmares she experience because of it. After 18 months of working with her, with only a slight change, Dr Callahan decided to tap under her eye (the end point of the stomach meridian point) after Mary's complaint of stomach discomfort. She announced immediately that her phobia had gone and ran down to the local swimming pool and began splashing water on her face. The phobia seemed to disappear completely and never occurred again.

Engineer Gary Craig trained with Dr Callahan in TFT. After studying the techniques carefully, and experimenting with them, he simplified the process into Emotional Freedom Technique that covers all meridians with out needing to develop individual algorithms.

One person's experience of EFT:
Sarah is trained in other methods of treatment and is very intuitive and also helped with problems in my life that I wouldn't have believed I could be helped with. Some times emotions emerged and she sorted them in minutes with EFT. I cannot stress just how much Sarah has helped improve my life.
